I saw in the Irish Times today that an Irish court has ruled that a woman in her thirties died as a result of using a Tampon. Although I am not shocked by this I know many of you will be.
There is a falsehood out there that Toxic Shock Syndrome or TSS for short can only be caused by prolonged usage of a tampon and happens very rarely. This falsehood is pushed by the tampon companies on the boxes and if you look at a box of tampons you will see that unlike your clothes that you wear or the food that you eat the “contents” of a tampon are not listed on the box and by law they don’t have to be. Don’t you find that odd? Do you know that a normal tampon or pad contains bleach, glue, synthetics derived from fossil fuels and some even have forever chemicals present and a host of other nasties. A tampon is an item that is used internally in a woman’s body and yet is not even considered a medical device in Europe and has only very recently been classified as one in the US. I find this very curious as a founder of Theya Healthcare a Femtech company that tampon companies have been getting away with this and making billions every year by pushing these dangerous unhealthy and life threatening feminine “hygiene products” (anybody else find that phrase offensive?) on a trusting public.
